It all looked good, if not great, at the beginning. We first spoke with Wilf on the phone and were told we could come and fill up our glass carboys. Price was never mentioned and we both assumed it was free. When we arrived, Wilf was very nice to talk to and again, there was no indication we would be charged until the water was in the bottles. Well, I don't expect anyone should have to work for free and wasn't bothered about the nominal charge ($4 per 20 litre carboy) and everything was well and good. I asked about the water's quality and was told by Wilf that the pH was 'around 8' and was shown a recent test result that listed the pH as 7.3! Well, I suppose I just wanted to believe at that point, but now wish I'd offered the water back in exchange for the money I'd paid. Though 7.3 was much better than the 6.0 I'd been getting from other artesian water sources, when I got home and dipped my pH paper in the water we'd bought from Wilf, the best I could do was 6.25 The pH from Lynn Canyon is 6.0 - and it's free. It also tastes better. Probably owing to its much higher tds, the Mt Lehman water 'smells like eggs', according to a young friend of mine who detects these things easier than I do. But I had already realized this in the way home. It smells of surface - as opposed to artesian water - and I'll be pouring it out and sticking to artesian water that I can actually see coming out of the ground from here on in.Lesson learned.

We sincerely regret hearing of the displeasure and unsatisfactory experience with our product from this customer. But I would like to respond to Mr. McDonald's comments & review on behalf of Country Fountain. As a member of the company, I have been involved in the business since it began and we've served many happy & satisfied customers over the years, including some who rave about the taste of our water & will not drink any other. But we also acknowledge that the taste will not appeal to every person who tries it. Had Mr. McDonald come back with the water, we would have gladly reimbursed him.

We have had water analysis done which shows a significant mineral content and a pH level of 8.6. This is known to fluctuate slightly due to other variables in the water. If Mr. McDonald used litmus paper for his test, the accuracy of the results are questionable. We can provide the results from the professional lab to anyone who asks. Measures are taken on a regular basis through water testing, both privately & in a provincial lab, to check for any impurities. The water is put through ultraviolet light to insure there is no presence of bacteria during the bottling process (required by law), but that in no way alters the taste.

As for Mr. McDonald questioning the source of the water, I can assure him that the water he purchased was not surface water, but rather from the well itself which is 180 feet in depth. The water passes through various layers of aquifer which greatly reduces the possibility of contamination. Wilf can easily show customers the bulkhead of the well and open valves to prove that the water is indeed coming from that source. He has done this on many occasions when there has been interest.

It's worthy to note that the water from the Lynn Creek spring is surface water which is more susceptible to contaminants from the environment including birds & animals. But, yes it is free.

With respect to paying for the water, if one is going by assumption, is it not safe to assume that most businesses expect to be paid for their product, especially if they are advertising on-line? So a general question at the time of initial inquiry should naturally be what the cost of the product is.
