I know, not everyone is ready for the dreaded W word. But here we are.
Whether we like it or not, winter is right around the corner, and so we put together a little checklist of things you can do to get your house winter ready.
✔ Check your fences, railings and steps. Is everything safe and secure?
✔ Gutters and downspouts, is water going where it should be, or is it detouring somewhere you don't want it to?
✔ Be rodent aware! Are there any spaces or cracks where a rodent can sneak through to stay warm for the winter?
✔Are your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in good working order?
✔ Change your furnace filters. Efficiency is key!
✔ Weatherstripping! Do you feel a draft under your door or doors, maybe it's time to seal that up. Do your windows and doors need some caulking to help keep the heat in and water out?
✔ Sump pumps, time to do a maintenance check, because it's one of those things you rarely think about until disaster strikes.
✔ Drain your hose bibs. Water is ruthless!
✔ Check your roof. Do you see any missing shingles, flashing or vents? You don't want to wait until there is snow sitting on your roof to realize you have an issue.
✔ Are you ready for snow? We all know that when it snows it sends the lower mainland into a tailspin and shovels are the hottest commodity in stores.
