Phyllis is enthusiastic about connecting people with music. She believes that our lives are enhanced as we learn the language of music and express our creativity through this medium.
Ms. Heppner has poured her energy into studying classical piano with Darlene Brigidear, Joanne Sommer and Edward Parker and jazz piano with Amanda Tosoff. She was awarded her ARCT with First Class Honours with Distinction in both the written and practical examinations and received the Gordon Hallet Scholarship for having the highest mark on these exams. She also holds a Licentiate Degree in Recital Performance with the London College of Music and Media.
With over forty years of teaching experience she has developed great skill in inspiring students to make music work for themselves. Coaching and encouraging teachers is another venture that Ms. Heppner enjoys. the MUSiK SHOP is her opportunity to pass on her skills and knowledge to younger teachers.
Ms. Heppner is a member of BC Registered Music Teachers Association and was recently the President of the South Fraser branch. She is an examiner with Conservatory Canada, specializing in Contemporary Idioms exams and is an adjudicator at music festivals in the lower mainland.
She is thrilled to be the keyboardist for QuintEssential Jazz. She has accompanied instrumentalists, soloists, and school and community choirs while maintaining an active role in her church. Besides all of this, she enjoys her 4 children and 12 grandchildren.
She loves her peaceful morning coffee with the National Post… challenging Sudoku puzzles… her house is always a flurry of activity!
